Approaching VICTORY: personal and professional observations of the director of the Scientific Library Ukrainian State University of Science and Technology

Abstract

After 270 days of Russia's full-scale war against Ukrainians, the understanding of what gives meaning to life and helps to move forward is analyzed and highlighted. First of all, the war continues to take away from us our normal life, peace, sleep, balance, but it cannot take away our hope, the right to love and joy, the right to be thankful for every day and for those little things that make us happy. Second, we managed to overcome the fear, despair, confusion of first days of war thanks to our families and friends, our glorious soldiers, and also thanks to our jobs. Using the example of the Scientific Library of the Ukrainian State University of Science and Technologies (Dnipro), which in conditions of crisis and inaccessibility to library collections and digital local resources, represents an innovative direction for Ukraine in support of Open Educational Resources (OER). After the university's transition to remote, blended or online learning, the Library was able to focus on OER and provide information support for educational processes. The "small steps tactic - step by step, but constantly" was applied, because we are facing the challenge of a long and exhausting war and seem to be moving from a "sprint" model to a "marathon" model. The Small Steps Tactic includes different stages and different types of Library activities for creation, use, repurposing, adaptation and dissemination OER.
