Abstract

The present article gives an overview about the history and development of libraries in Switzerland and presents the latest library system for academic libraries in the country. The concept of Software as a Service (SAAS) is highlighted and its service organisation is explained as Switzerland acquires with this setup the first nationwide library system and a full-service platform (Swisscovery) for its member libraries.
