Social archives arise from the foundations, associations, informal groups, but also are initiated by libraries. Why the library is a good place to create archive collecting and sharing collections on the local community and everyday life? Does running a social archive is a part of new library functions? The article is based on the experience of Karta Center Foundation: „Social archives in Poland” and „Digital Archives of Local Tradition”.
