Alcohol problem - addiction and codependency. The "Library - Information - Therapy" in Książnica Podlaska in Białymstok
Abstract
The article discusses the steps taken under the project "Library - Information - Therapy", addressed to communities with alcohol problems. The project is carried out since 2011 by the Książnica Podlaska Łukasz Górnicki in Białystok in cooperation with Miejska Komisja Rozwiązywanie Problemów Alkoholowych and Białostocki Oddział Stowarzyszenia Bibliotekarzy Polskich. Basic directions of the project are: meetings with therapists, purchasing of specialized literature, information on how to get an institutional support. Meetings are held in the Library's branches of Książnica Podlaska. Participants are codependencies` family members with alcohol problems, alcoholics abstinents, other people interested in the issue. Within two years, 25 meetings have taken place, in which 427 people participated. Lectures were the most important for listeners: knowledge, the ability to share problems, getting in touch with a therapist. Librarians indicated useful literature (more than 120 volumes of books have been purchased), they contact the abstainers clubs, worked on handouts. In conclusion, two years of continuous project activities were considered very useful and necessary.
