KARTA and other community archives

Abstract

Community archives are common among non-governmental organisations, libraries and informal groups. They collect and make available historical photographs, documents and recordings. This bottom-up activity takes many forms: traditional or digital archive. The KARTA Foundation runs a project aiming at stabilizing the situation of community archives through permanent support, professionalisation and promotion.
