Is it still a Library? Modern services and interior design with examples from libraries and information centers in Poland and abroad
Abstract
The article aims to stimulate discussion on whether mobility and design flexibility in libraries and information centers can meet the criteria for being a “third place”. The topic aims to be the starting point for reflection on how much the conditions under which work the Polish libraries (both in terms of financial and legal aspects) allow for independence of decisions on this issue. Also, the article investigates the following questions: how to reap knowledge about the needs of the user (in the perspective of personal approach to groups) in terms of space needed to work and relax, and how to change and adapt services according to their needs. The basis for the discourse is a review of selected cutting edge library services and description of their practical implications for users.
